Elat’ma report Jul 01, 2011
As soon as we arrived at the boarding school, began working in "non-stop." The staff showed us and Dr KE Pozharischenskomu the new achievements of children. The children were evaluated one at a time. The children who were able moved out of their room into the hallway to the examination room. We only had time to take pictures and make notes. The Doctor said that almost all the children have grown out of their orthotis and braces. They need to make new ones for each child.

Andrew has grown significantly, gained strength and began to utter some sounds. For example, say "wow" when asked about the dog. He showed us that he can walk with a cane and without help. Before treatment, the staff did not even think that the "boy-Grasshopper" with thin, bent legs due to spasticity legs could move. Andrew now needs two braces to walk.

Andrei, perhaps, is one of the most active of the boys. Although when we first met Andrei, the doctor was not sure of a positive result in the verticalization as his arms and legs were severely deformed. .However, Andrei is now not only walking but almost running, especially if there is such interest as delicious candy. In general, Andrei has an interest is everything. The photo shows a local "caretaker" entertaining Andrei while the doctor examines another patient. During this time, Andrei gained weight and grew taller. Now, he needs new braces.

Andrew is 12, but he remains in Elatomskom orphanage because no establishments in the area could provide the necessary care. Andrew moves slowly and still has a lot of pain. Therefore, it is difficult to motivate him to walk. The doctor advised to put Andrew in a walking cart (see photo). It is easier to walk because of the wheels, and this may motivate Andrew to walk. Andrew does not like to pose for us and he always tries to turn away from the camera flash. But once a month visiting his own mother they are able to find a common language and understand each other. Andrew must sleep with the braces on to keep the legs in a straightened state. Medical and technical assessments have been done and documents are processed in the regional FSS.

Because of this, it hurts fully to straighten his legs and he moves with a cart - crawling on his knees holding hands and pushing using the cart as support. Staff jokingly say that Sergei should be at the university as he is very smart. He understands requests and likes to watch cartoons. Sergei has grown and needs two interlocking devices on his feet to gradually develop walking. Medical and technical assessments have been done and documents are processed in the regional FSS.

Dima is a very complex case - he has crooked legs and feet which cause him great pain. Dima now walks with assistance. Doctor recommended for Dima two new braces with front stop spacers.
After visiting our "old friends" at the school, the staff asked the doctor to see five more children. They all have been at the orphanage a long time but the staff considers them to be promising and hopes that they can also be put on their feet with treatment.
These children:
Roma Kolesnikov - born 2000
Diagnosis: Down syndrome and profound mental retardation. Roma’s outlook is very promising. The doctor hesitates to do the orthotics versus excercise. Previously, Roma was only lying down but now can sit up. And despite having small muscle mass in his legs, he can stand and walk. To do this he needs to strengthen the gluteal muscles with physical therapy and massage. But in the end after all, it was agreed that this process will orthotics will be a faster result and he needs two inarticulate apparatus.
Natasha Kalinskova - born 2000
Diagnosis: Dandy Walker syndrome, congenital dislocation of the hip, spastic tetraparesis.
Natasha needs 2 interlocking devices for walking and braces for the ankles at night.Maxim Malyshev - born 2000
Diagnosis: cerebral palsy, severe, spastic tetraparesis, convulsions, profound mental retardation.
Maxsim needs a one-piece unit.
Dima Sokolov - born 1999
Diagnosis: cerebral palsy, spastic tetraparesis in violation of the static-motor function, microcephaly, convulsions, profound mental retardation.
Dima is visually impaired but can distinguish between shadow and light and he can move around. He needs to do two apparatus to walk and 2 detachable braces at night.Nastia Kobzeva - born 2003
Diagnosis: cerebral palsy, spastic tetraparesis, contracture of joints of lower limbs, ploskovalgusnye foot.
Nastya needs two interlocking apparatus and night braces.
Thus, the 'old' children added five new ones, which also needs to work on verticalization. Four of the "old" children have been assessed and their documents are in the Ryazan FSS in order to try to get the necessary aids to children at the expense of the State.
We hope, but to be honest the last time we were requested the State to pay, we were denied. They have a contract for technical means of rehabilitation (TCP) only from the Ryazan factory, and equipment not manufactured in FBMSE are not allowed.
Then the equipment was partly paid from the accounts of children, but it took six months to get compensation from SIF. Now Boarding School has banned the use of funds from the accounts of children. And it is not clear how they can use the rights of disabled children to receive an annual TCP from the state. Most likely, they can only rely your assistance to help them.
