The work of the Family Center is complex. All activity is directed on abilitation, rehabilitation and socialization of children with special needs.
Art therapy. Theart therapy support helps children with deep motor defects to begin their development. These are children were denied services in other social centers and institutions due to their disability. Art therapy helps children discover how to feel, to understand and to contact with world around. Some children start walking, sense their body and world around them.
Defectology. Experienced specialists works on an individual development program for every child. Theydiagnose and monitor the dynamics of their development. Yearly, about 60 children receive psychological- educational rehabilitation.
Methodical support. Specialists work together with education specialists, which provide consultations for families. Parents can receive answers to their specific questions and recommendations about their child’s development at home. All families who attend our Center get methodical support.
Logopedics. This support isdirected to help formulate and develop the child’s speech.
Musical sessions. The Family Center introduced the music sessions as a part of the children’s therapy in 2008. For the first time, children study in groups. They sing, dance and play small performances together.
Household activity. We introduced this is a new project in 2008 with the help of “United Way” charitable foundation. These sessions develop communication and child’s abilities to interact with adults by involving the child in interesting activities in sensory games with the elements of household activity.
12 children attend these sessions individually or in small groups. There are 16 sessions per week.
Dog therapy. In 2009, we introduced our Dog Therapy program. These sessions are conducted with special dogs and their handlers. These sessions provide the children with an impulsive emotional development, social adaptation and rehabilitation in a non threatening environment.
Psychological and educational support. We provide psychological and educational support to children attending special schools.
Assistance in search for special pre-school and school institutions. In 2008, thirteen children were recommended and directed to special schools and childcare centers, institutions of additional education through the assistance of the Family Center.
Book and toy library. Families can rent special toys, literature and rehabilitation equipment to continue their development at home.
Parents Club. Our parents community was organized with the purpose of mutual aid and support. The activity of the Parent Club includes seminars devoted to development, education, protection of rights, and meetings where parents can discuss relevant problems with specialists, and to share their experiences.
Parents Support. Parents receive psychological help, legal advice, methodical and material support. They come together for evenings of songs, plays, performances for children and support each during this difficult time.
“Nurse for an hour” service. This program provides a short-term nanny service while parents are not at home.
